What’s the cost of a trip to the Serengeti?
Tl;dr: If flying, the cost for 2 travelers in high season is approximately $960 USD per person per day. If traveling by vehicle and covering other national parks, it’s about $630 USD per person per day —these prices exclude tips for your guide and any other staff.
From our previous article on the feasibility of a 1-day trip to the Serengeti (Can I Do a Day Trip to the Serengeti from Arusha?), we know that it’s unlikely you’ll spend just one day in the Serengeti. So, this blog will assume a stay of 2 days or more in the Serengeti, either by road or flight.
Traveling to the Serengeti by Flight
Suppose you plan a short trip to the Serengeti (2 nights) by flight, arriving and departing from Seronera Airstrip. Your expenses will include:
- Round-trip flights from Arusha to Seronera Airstrip (or alternatively from Zanzibar).
- Park fees for the Serengeti National Park.
- A driver/guide and the vehicle for your duration in the Serengeti.
- Overnight hotel and lodge stays.
Some accommodations offer game packages which include airstrip transfers and are usually shared with other guests (not a private safari experience). These are often listed as game package rates for the hotel & lodges.

The price increases beyond six travellers because a second vehicle is needed.

Traveling to the Serengeti by Vehicle
Traveling by vehicle often includes visits to other national parks such as Lake Manyara National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Tarangire National Park. Costs will include:
- Park fees for all visited parks.
- A driver/guide for the duration of your trip.
- Vehicle costs.
- Overnight hotels and lodges.
